"One of the best things you can do for your kids is to live up to your own potential. Probably more useful than any number of lectures you'll give them." - ST

How is your week going? Issue 14 here. Better late than never.

1. Direct Sales for Bootstrapped SaaS Startups

If there is a single post you want to read today, it should be this. Nathan (Converkit) wrote an awesome post about direct sales for bootstrapped SaaS startups. The post covers the common excuses and making it work for you. #posts

All venture backed SaaS companies are quite familiar with sales, but for some reason the small, bootstrapped companies are hesitant. The most common reason they give is “it doesn’t scale.” That’s fine. Initially you just need traction. Sales will get you that.

2. Care Cards

I ran into this beautiful, well-designed "set of tips to keep you afloat" the other night. You need to check it out. #tools

Care Cards are a set of kind thoughts and helpful little activities to keep you on top of your mental well-being.

3. I’m Walking Away From the Product I Spent a Year Building

Derrick shares his experience building Level, an alternative to Slack, and why he is walking away from the product after a year. There are many things to learn from this post. #posts

Having robust filtering criteria is ideal when making hard decisions. I’m happy to be discovering my constraints early on before I find myself years into running a business that doesn’t fit me, and I wind up hating my job. I only wish I had this much clarity a year earlier, but you know what they say about hindsight.

4. What does it takes to successfully launch a product?

Interesting question and discussion here on what it takes to successfully launch a product. #discussion

I’m really talking about going to market launching, spending money on ads, trying to tweak ad copy, create email campaigns, create/change marketing campaigns, creating sales funnels, constant iterating a/b of landing pages, etc.
